- Unique woods or combinations of woods
- Unique sound
- Picky attention to every detail
- No slogans or advertising on the outside of the call…Let the call speak for itself
Many call makers sell "field grade" calls for hunting use and reserve the nice woods and the hard work for their "presentation grade" calls. Just because you're going to take your call hunting doesn’t mean that it can't be something that you can be proud to own, and it doesn't justify less work on my part. I don't offer field grade or presentation calls. My calls all get the same level of quality and attention to detail. They’re beautiful enough for display and they don't mind working for a living either.
No two calls I produce are exactly alike. When turning calls I do not use a duplicator apparatus, a pattern or any sort of measuring devices. Although my calls have very similar appearances, there are subtle differences based on the desired sound, species of wood, etc. If you order two of the same call they'll be very similar but they won't be dimensionally identical, and they may have slight differences in sound, just as two turkeys would.
You won't see two things on my website. You won't see the term "in stock" next to the call you're looking at and you won't see a shopping cart for checkout. Wingert's Woodworks custom calls are exactly that…Custom. I can't make a custom call unless I have your input on the desired sound and look of your call. Taking a call off the shelf and writing someone's name on the outside does not constitute a custom call. When I make a call for you, I write your (or the recipient's) name on the underside of the surface or soundboard so it is visible through the holes on the underside of the call. It is subtle, and proves that the call was custom made by me for you.
I work full time as a building inspector for a local municipality, so call making is an evenings and weekends venture for me in my home shop. When not making sawdust I enjoy fishing, hunting, 3D archery and spending time with my wife Tammie and my chocolate Labrador Moose.
