Wingert’s Woodworks “pot and peg” style friction calls are for hunters that expect exceptional sound and appreciate fine craftsmanship and attention to detail. All calls are custom made to order with my specific customer’s needs in mind. Available surfaces include slate, glass, crystal, aluminum and ceramic. The list of available woods is extensive. This page is intended to showcase many of my calls, and the various woods that I utilize. Call price is dependent on the wood and surface chosen, but most calls start at about $65 and include a matching striker and shipping. Please contact me at wingertswoodworks@hotmail.com to discuss making your custom turkey call a reality.
A pair of turkey calls made from goncalo alves, a South American wood that is used on high-end decks. These calls have aluminum surfaces and will softly tree yelp, but will get nearly as loud as a box call. The pictured striker is an upgraded laminate striker.
The call is made from wormy pecan, and has matching wood striker heads with purple heart and wenge pegs.
This call is cocobolo, and has a glass surface over a slate soundboard. A very versatile call, paired with a matching cocobolo striker.
This call is made from curly claro walnut from California. Claro walnut is known for its vibrant color and interesting grain pattern. It is more expensive than the black walnut used by many production call companies, but well worth a few extra dollars. A truly striking wood. This particular call has a matte oil finish.
This shows the glass surface of the claro walnut call. The soundboard inside is slate. I condition a small spot on my glass calls where the call can be played. The customer can choose to condition a larger area or the entire surface with a carborundum stone if they wish. Soundboards can also be laser engraved for an additional fee.
A call made from osage orange (also known as hedge, horse apple, bois d' arc). The darkened effects are done with fire, and the bright yellow slowly ages to a light honey color over time. This call was made for a very important person in the world of wild turkey conservation. Surfaces can be laser engraved for an additional fee.
A bubinga call made for the NWTF's Flint Hills Gobblers chapter in Emporia, KS. This call was donated and features an aluminum surface with laser engraving.
A call made from composite decking material. I have this material in grey, brown and mahogany brown. It is a unique material and costs a little less than a wood call, as it doesn't require a finish.
Bocote. An oily Mexican hardwood in the same family as cocobolo, only with a gold color with dark growth rings and light colored sapwood.
